Ruth Ann Hosp Bond, 93, Lifelong Joplin resident, died Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Freeman Hospital.
Ruth was born August 28, 1920 to the late John and Gaynelle Hosp in Webb City, Missouri. She graduated from Duenweg High School in 1938 and attended nursing school in Kansas City.
She married John Saunders Bond on August 30, 1945. He preceded her in death on February 24, 1986.
She was also preceded in death by her older brother, John M. Hosp, Jr. and his wife, Helen.
During World War II, Helen worked as a nurse at the former St. John’s Hospital in Joplin, followed by a 24 year career at Freeman Hospital. She retired from nursing in 1986. She spent her retirement gardening; traveling to visit her children and participating in fitness activities at the Joplin YMCA.
She is survived by a brother, Robert L. Hosp and his wife, Peggy, Webb City; a daughter, Cathy Welsh and her husband, Bill, Joplin; a son, Robert Ray Bond, Lincoln, Arkansas; three nieces; two nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Monday, January 13, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends following the services at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Joplin Family YMCA, in care of Parker Mortuary.
