Donald Roughton, age 79, of Joplin, Mo. passed away at 1:50 a.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at his home following a sudden illness. Don was born October 25, 1934 in Bentonville, Arkansas. He had lived in Joplin most of his life. Don was employed as the Produce Manager for the former Foodtown store, and Produce Clerk at the IGA grocery store in Joplin. He was a member of the Retail Clerks Union #322. He was also a member of the Wildwood Baptist Church.
Don married Janice Phillips November 27, 1954 in Joplin and she survives. Additional survivors include two sons, Kevin Roughton and wife Teresa, Joplin, and Scott Roughton and wife Sueanne, Alba, Mo. one brother, David Roughton, Joplin, four grandchildren; Jody, Chase, and Lacey Roughton, and Aspen Waters, and three great grandchildren; Ada, Mitt, and Raydn Roughton, and one on the way. Don was preceded in death by a son, Jody Brian Roughton, two brothers, Orville and Truman Roughton, and a sister, Juanita Townsend.
Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Burial will follow at the Osborne Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. Friday until the service. Arrangements are under the directionof the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.
