Russell Wayne Smith, 74, Cassville, MO, died Jan. 21, 2014 at Cox South Hospital, Springfield, following a short illness. Russell was born April 25, 1934 in Neosho and lived most of his life in the SW Missouri area. He served in the U.S. Army and worked at Farmer’s Chemical in Joplin. He was an avid builder, fisherman, hunter and gardener; a member of the 203rd Houndogs Retirees Association and a member of Southside Baptist Church in Joplin.
Russell and Susan Spawr were married on April 15, 1966 in Joplin and she survives. Additional survivors include four children, Karissa Galardo and husband, James, Cassville; Russell Smith, Longview; Robert Smith and wife, Karen, Squires, MO and DeAnna Brown and husband, James, Longview; two brothers, Rodger Smith and wife, Kathy, Webb City and Johnny Mack Smith, Joplin; four sisters, Jeanie Benge and husband, Bobby, Jeffersonville, IN; Janet Kay Kaman, Carthage; Joannas Boots and husband, Jim, Carterville and Valerie Martin, Joplin; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
