Deb Brooks

Debra Kay Brooks, age 71 of Riverton, passed away at her home at 7:49 AM on Friday, November 4, 2022 following an illness.

Deb was born on June 27, 1951 to the union of William "Bill" and Florence (Burris) Pittman. She graduated from Galena High School with the Class of 1968. She was a lifetime resident of Cherokee County.

She graduated from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in 1994, and became the first female Law Enforcement Officer in Cherokee County.






 

She worked for the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department as a Sheriff's Deputy and School Resource Officer for the Galena and Baxter Springs School Systems. Deb earned the rank of Sergeant, and retired in 2016 after 27 years of service. She loved riding her horses, and was a member of the local "Calamity Jane" Drill Team. She spent long hours enjoying nature, gardening, fishing, caring for her dogs and horses, and being with her grandchildren.

She was united in marriage with Terry Brooks on January 28, 2005 in Miami, OK. He survives. 








Additional Survivors include two sons, Colby Webb (wife, Amanda) of Riverton, and Jeffrey Brooks of Lighthouse Point, Florida; one daughter, Michelle Evans (husband, Rod) of Allen, TX; three brothers, Harold Wayne Pittman (wife, Annie Ruth) of Lake Butler, FL, Dennis "Cotton" Pittman of Galena, KS, Lonnie Joe Pittman of Joplin, MO; three sisters, Leann Paine of Joplin, MO, Hope Pittman of Joplin, MO , Renee Donahue (husband, Jeff) of Cherokee Village, AR; and 11 grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Florence Pittman; one son, James "Jimmy" Brooks; one brother, Doug Pittman; and one sister, Diane Pittman.

Mrs. Brooks has been entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home for cremation. The entire Brooks, Webb, and Pittman families would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. After Deb's hard fought struggle, the family will take some time to mourn and when winter is in their rear-view mirror, the grass is green, and the flowers are in bloom, they will gather for a celebration of life.
