(From Clark Funeral Home)Matthew Brandon Cashel was one of two children born to Michael and Eraina Cashel. He was born and raised in Neosho, Missouri. He passed away peacefully at his home on April 7, 2026, at the age of 51.
Growing up, Matthew was always an animal lover. He continued to have a soft spot for animals, especially cats, as he currently had a stray he called Junebug that he fed on his front porch daily. He was the kind of big brother that made his little sister watch horror movies when he babysat her, but would always point out how fake the animals were, because he never wanted her to be sad that an animal was being hurt.
He was also a comic book and graphic novel enthusiast. He owned every single edition of the GI Joe comic series since 1982. He even had them bound into books as he completed a series. One of his favorite trips was to a GI Joe Comic Con in Florida. He also loved Sci-Fi and Star Wars was his favorite. He was a fan, even from a young age. He was only two years old when his parents took him to see Star Wars at the drive in.
During his school years, Matthew was outgoing, loved to learn, and a class clown. He was a member of the 1993 graduating class of Neosho High School. He attended Crowder College, and later, MSSU. When his parents enrolled him at MSSU, and when he received 27 books, he was thrilled! He was so excited to get home so he could get started reading them, the only problem was deciding which one to read first.
After college, he became a Paraprofessional for special needs students at Field Elementary School in the Neosho R-5 School District. He was also an author, penning 12 issues of his own comic book series called Paradigm. He poured his heart into the series, creating a riveting story that his fans loved to follow.
Matthew was a music connoisseur. His favorite artists being Simon & Garfunkel, Pearl Jam, and the Bangles. He had a lovely singing voice, even though Mr. Butler asked him to only mouth the words in music class.
Matthew and Chelsey used to watch Scooby Doo every morning before school. It was his enthusiasm that made Chelsey love it so much. Now it’s hard to tell who the bigger fan is. Another 80’s mini-series they watched together was V. He even made Chelsey dress up like V when she was 7 years old. He was the kind of big brother everyone wishes they had.
