Ken Barent

(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)

Kenneth Bruce Barent, age 78, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away at his home on March 26, 2026.

Ken was born April 25, 1947, in Independence, Missouri, to Eddie and Juanita (Jackson) Barent. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, including service during the Vietnam War (Phang Rang), retiring after 23 years.

Following his military service, he dedicated 10 years as a Commercial Vehicle Officer with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to public safety.

Ken was a skilled mechanic of both auto and jet planes. He had a love for hunting, guns, reloading shells, going to dirt tracks or NASCAR races, playing cards and dominoes, especially Chickenfoot. He enjoyed travelling, both day trips or vacations, watching movies and listening to music (country), anything by Willie Nelson, or ABBA.

Ken drank coffee at all hours and added Tabasco sauce on most things. He loved wearing (Disney) Grumpy T-shirts.

On August 29, 1970, he married Diane Chancellor in Kansas City, Missouri. Together, they built a life centered on family and shared many years of love and devotion. From this union came their daughter, Angie, who was a cherished part of his life.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Thelma (Bebermeyer) Barent, stepbrothers Jack Bebermeyer and Robert Bebermeyer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Diane, of nearly 56 years; his daughter, Angie Curran, and son-in-law Cullen, as well as two Sister-in-laws, Gerri Farrin and Kay Brown and her husband Bob, several nieces and nephews and many friends who will remember him fondly.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., prior to the service.
