(From Parker Mortuary)Dorothy Giles, 94, Joplin, MO, passed away at her home on April 18, 2026. She was born on August 10, 1931, to the late Anthony and Theresa (Tenspole) Highberger.
She graduated from Westphalia High School in Westphalia, Kansas, and later attended Business College in Kansas City. Dorothy began her career in Kansas City at TWA, where she gained valuable experience and established the work ethic that would define her throughout her life. She later worked in sales at Sears. When her children were little, she worked in the grade school cafeteria.
She loved playing bingo and looked forward to the fun and excitement it brought. She also enjoyed visiting with friends and going out for lunch. Above all, she loved having family around her. Being surrounded by loved ones brought her great happiness, and those gatherings were among the moments she cherished most.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Patricia Pyle (Jerry) of Seneca, Mo, Michael Giles of Joplin, MO, and Steven Giles (Liliya)of Joplin, MO; son-in-law, James Anderson of Kansas City; grandchildren, Bryan Pyle (Michelle) of Joplin, MO and John Anderson of Seattle, WA; great-grandchildren, Luke Pyle and Logan Pyle of Joplin, MO.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Giles; daughter, Marilyn Anderson; siblings, Lawrence Highberger, Carl Highberger, Richard Highberger, and Josephine Highberger.
