(From Derfelt Funeral Home)JaVohn Benjamin Morrill, 28, of Columbus, KS left us tragically on March 30, 2026.
JaVohn was born on February 10, 1998, in Pittsburg, Kansas to Buffi Freeman and Poncho Sales. JaVohn attended Riverton schools in his younger years and later transferred to Columbus Unified High School where he graduated with the class of 2016 and went on to attend college.
Javohn was very athletic and loved competition. He participated in football, baseball, basketball and track where he received many awards throughout his high school years.
The last several years JaVohn was a warehouse manager for Bennett Packaging, Pittsburg, KS. He was devoted to his job, never missed a day and was loved by everyone he worked with.
JaVohn enjoyed bodybuilding, playing golf, listening to music of all genres and spending time with the family’s highland cows. But most of all, he loved supporting and cheering for his nephew, Braxton, at all his sporting events.
Javohn had one of the gentlest souls and quickly made a lasting impression on everyone he met. Many knew him for his sense of humor, always being supportive and loved making others smile. His love was unconditional and he had a smile that could light up the room.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Lloyd Butch Morrill and paternal grandmother, Ollie Roberson.
Survived by his parents Chet and Buffi Freeman, Poncho and Beth Sales. Additional survivors include his siblings, Tyler Morrill (Raychelle), CJ Freeman (Taylor), Cody Freeman, Dante Sales, Darius Sales, Darian Sales, Kalee Swayze, Devin Sales, Keenan Stanley, and Deveron Duncan. Grandparents Sandra Morrill, Diana Morrill, Jimmie Freeman Sr. (Carla), Norma Roark, Hersel Brown, and Mattie Miner. Nieces and Nephews Braxton Morrill, Zane Gray, Lily Freeman, Blaire Freeman, River Freeman, Navy Freeman, Karson Freeman, Colson Freeman, and many other nieces, nephews and extended family who were all special to him. He is also survived by his girlfriend, Kylie Shepard and best friend, Kale Smith.
Services will be held on Wednesday, April 8th, 2026, at 1:30 pm at Derfelt Funeral home in Columbus, KS. The family will receive friends at 12:30 pm, prior to the service, at the funeral home.
