(From Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home)Luona Kay Smith, age 82, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 12:56 a.m. on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She was born April 20, 1943, in Enid, Oklahoma, the daughter of Alvin Riley and Dorothy Jane (Skaggs) McNeill.
Kay was a homemaker and a loving mother. She was a great cook, enjoyed camping, and had a love for all animals. Her happy place was being on the farm. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
On December 26, 1998, she married Thomas Leon Smith, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on November 17, 2019.
Kay is survived by her daughter, Pamela Earls and her husband, Brad, of Conway, Missouri; two sons, Robert Trejo and his wife, Jinene, of Elkland, Missouri and Steven Trejo of Niangua, Missouri; one sister; one brother; her stepmother; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

No services are planned currently. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.
