Stephen Lant

Stephen Hymer Lant, Sr., age 54, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at his residence. He was born on August 9, 1971, in Joplin, Missouri, the middle of three sons born to the union of William Henry “Bill” and Jane Marie (Hymer) Lant.

He was raised in Seneca, Missouri, and was a 1990 graduate of Seneca High School. Following high school, he enlisted and served his country faithfully as a Marine. After his honorable discharge, he returned home and graduated from the Missouri Southern State College Police Academy, preparing himself for a career of service to others.






Stephen dedicated many years to law enforcement and public safety. He worked for several years at the Newton County Sheriff’s Department as a detective and in the undercover drug task force, where he served with determination and commitment. He later moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where he became head of Regional Loss Prevention over seven Wal-Mart locations. In 2003, he returned home to Joplin and became assistant manager for Wal-Mart. He recently retired as an owner/operator truck driver.

Stephen was known for his many interests and talents. He enjoyed fishing and cooking, and he had a deep appreciation for Elvis. He was also a certified marine mechanic.






He is survived by his three children, Rose Marie Lant of Joplin, Missouri, Stephen Lant, Jr. of Neosho, Missouri, and Xanden Lant of Clever, Missouri. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Tatum, Kendrick, Naomi Rose, and Kelsey, who brought joy and pride to his life. He is survived by his parents, Bill and Jane Lant of Pineville, Missouri, and by his two brothers, Will Lant and his wife, Anita, of Pineville, and Craig Lant and Gabrielle Russell of Fairbanks, Alaska. He is also survived by a host of other family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday evening, April 7, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri with John Karriman officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday beginning at 4:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Arrangements are under the care of Parker Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri.
