Dan Friar

(From Greenfield Funeral Chapel)

Daniel Joe Friar, 72, of Nevada, Missouri, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026.

He was born to Joseph R. Friar and Arvella Jean Ellerman Friar and graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1971.

Dan was united in marriage to Judy Ann Coleman on June 28, 1975, and later to Judy J. Lessman on November 21, 1982.

A man who believed in hard work and staying busy, Dan built a life through many roles over the years. He worked at the El Dorado Springs Shoe Factory, O’Sullivan Industries in Lamar, Nevada Fram, and the Walmart Distribution Center in Harrisonville. Later, he continued doing what he did best—working with his hands—through home renovations and repair in Nevada.

Dan knew how to enjoy life. In his younger years, he could often be found playing slow-pitch softball or camping at the lake. If he wasn’t there, chances were he had a pool stick in hand—he was quite the pool shark—or was out checking if the fish were biting on a nice day.

He valued the simple things—sitting in a lawn chair visiting with friends or taking a drive to enjoy the countryside.

More than anything, Dan will be remembered for the joy he brought with him. He had a natural ability to make people laugh, and you could easily pick him out of a crowd by his unmistakable laugh—one that was entirely his own. He often said, “Have fun,” and lived true to his words, making sure those around him did too.

Dan was a natural grandfather. He loved going to ballgames and teaching his grandkids how to bait a hook—moments he sincerely cherished. He truly loved and enjoyed life, especially when shared with family and friends.

Survivors include his brother, David (Janet) Friar of El Dorado Springs; his sister, Patricia Langford (Kent) of Stockton; his daughter, Stephanie (Jason) Stahl of Lamar; his sons, Trey (Leslie) Friar of Lockwood and Treven Friar of Nevada; along with five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Jean Friar, and his brothers, John Friar and Larry Roberts.

Dan’s life was a reminder to enjoy the little things, laugh often, work hard, and, above all, have fun.

A graveside service will be held Friday, April 24, at 3:00 p.m. at El Dorado Springs Cemetery. Services are under the care of Greenfield Funeral Chapel.
