(From Clark Funeral Home)Eric Dean Harris of Neosho, Missouri passed away May 21, 2026 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri just two days after his 70th birthday.
Eric was born on May 19, 1956 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Phil D. Harris and Cariou Kruse Harris. At age 8, Eric became part of the Henry and Verla Probst family as a foster child. There, he grew up on the family farm near Cook, Nebraska with brother Steve. He attended District 41 Country School and later Nemaha Valley High School in Cook where he graduated in 1974. Eric attended Grace Lutheran Church in Cook, Nebraska.
After High School, Eric joined the U.S. Army and later made a career in the U.S. Navy.
In the Navy he specialized in navigation and communication on various ships. Eric was also a recruiter for the Navy. After retirement he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and flying kites of all sizes.
Eric is survived by brother Michael Harris and wife Karen of Las Vegas, Nevada, brother Steve Probst and wife Diane of Blair, Nebraska, Grandson Britton Ayre of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Janna Rae Cornelius of Alda, Nebraska and many friends and fellow veterans from the Neosho and Joplin areas who were so supportive during his long battle with cancer. He was active in the American Legion Clyde R Burdick Post 163 and the M. Waldo Hatler VFW Post 4142.
He was preceded in death by his Wife, Sue; Parents, Phil and Carlou Harris; Foster Parents, Henry and Verla Probst; Brother, John and Sisters Christine and Cindy.
