(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Irene F. Strain (Chitwood) age 93, of Joplin, MO passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026 at Joplin Gardens surrounded by family and loved ones.
Irene was born on February 17, 1933 in Camdenton, MO to her parents Lawrence and Anna (Roofener) Gregory.
Irene was a homemaker most of her life and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren above all. She married her first husband, Robert K. Chitwood, and to their union they had two children, Michelle and Robert "Mike" Chitwood. He precedes her in passing. Irene then married her second husband, Lee Strain, in 2005 and he also precedes her in passing.
Additionally, she is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Anna Gregory, and her son Robert “Mike” Chitwood.
Irene is survived by her daughter Michelle Chitwood, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 from 6:00-7:00pm at Mason-Woodard Mortuary followed by a graveside service on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 3:00pm at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
