(From Parker Mortuary)John Franklin Richmond II, age 81, of Joplin, MO, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at his home surrounded by the love of his family.
John was born on April 18, 1945, at St. John’s Hospital in Joplin, MO, to the late union of John Franklin Richmond I and Mildred Ivy (Harrison) Richmond.
From an early age, he demonstrated a strong work ethic being a part of the Eagle Scouts. He grew up Riverton, KS until 5th grade and later moved to Carl Junction, MO where he was a proud graduate of Carl Junction High School in 1963.
He married Linda Martin on March 25, 1966, at Carl Junction Christian Church and together they celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary this year. John devoted 34 years of his career to Modern Business Systems and Ikon, where his loyalty and dedication were evident to all who worked alongside him.
After those long and meaningful chapters, he purchased and operated Hardwood Custom Cabinets for 8 years in Louisiana until Hurricane Katrina brought that season to an end. He then returned to Joplin and started his greatest achievement, Checker Mobility, where John enjoyed transporting people to medical facilities and truly cared for the individuals he was taking care of. John enjoyed this gratifying role for 10 years before retiring.
Outside of work, John enjoyed a full and active life. He loved fishing and golfing, and he had a lasting appreciation for cars and traveling. He also enjoyed working with his hands, a pursuit that reflected both his skill and his satisfaction in creating and fixing things. He was a true people person, someone who could connect easily with others and make them feel welcome. John was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church since 2008, and his faith community was an important part of his life. He will be remembered not only for the work he did and the interests he enjoyed, but also for the character he displayed throughout his life. His kindness touched many lives, his generosity was freely given, and his selfless nature was evident in the way he treated others with patience and respect.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by one son, Paul James Richmond; and one sister, Carolyn Sue Replogle.
