(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)With deep love and heavy hearts, we are saddened to announce the passing of Stephen Wayne Jordan, a devoted husband, father, Pop-Pop, and friend. Steve succumbed to illness at the age of 76 at his home in Joplin, surrounded by his loving family on May 26, 2026, following a long and hard-fought battle with cancer.
Steve was born in Galena, Kansas to Ted and Helen Jordan on March 17, 1950.
He worked in grocery store management, starting as a meat cutter at age 15, learning the business and advancing rapidly to become a store manager in his early 20s. He continued to run and manage stores for nearly 40 years. Toward the end of his career, he worked as the supervisor of the grounds crew at Missouri Southern State University, a job he truly enjoyed.
In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by one son, Dustin Jordan, and a brother, Vernon Jordan.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Cindy Jordan of Joplin; one son, Matthew, and daughter-in-law, Samantha Jordan of Joplin; one daughter, Kimberly Jordan Colvenbach, and son-in-law, Mark Colvenbach of Ruskin, Florida; as well as four grandchildren: Jordyn and William Colvenbach, and Declan and Carter Jordan. He is also survived by a sister, Mary Hayes, and brother-in-law, Lyman Hayes of Joplin, Missouri.

Steve was an avid fly-fisherman and bird hunter, billiards player, and Chiefs fan who enjoyed the great outdoors and building lifelong memories with his family. In his retirement, Steve could be found cruising the Caribbean, shaking down a slot machine, or tying his own flies for the next family fishing trip to Roaring River. In his later years, nothing brought Steve more joy than his grandchildren, and he took immense pride in each of their latest accomplishments and adventures. He will forever be remembered as an honest, hardworking man with an unwavering love and devotion to his loved ones. Steve was the quintessential family man who couldn’t help beaming with pride every time he talked about his kids and grandkids. He was fiercely dedicated to the punch line of several classic “dad” jokes and was a true beacon of light and positive energy in the lives he touched.
At his fervent request, there will be no formal service held at this time. The family will be planning a celebration of life at a later date.

I cannot say enough kind words about Steve.
