(From Ozark Funeral Home)Ernest Leon Sherrill, Sr., age 76, of Anderson, Missouri, known to many as Leon and affectionately called “Bo Bo” by some of his family, was born on September 9, 1949, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, to the union of the late Donald and Maudane (Colvin) Sherrill. He departed this life peacefully on Wednesday evening, May 13, 2026, in the comfort of his home after a hard-fought battle with prostate cancer.
Leon was a longtime resident of Anderson, Missouri, and lived a life marked by devotion, strength, and steady commitment to the people he loved. He spent 22 years in the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam, where he retired with the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. His years of military service reflected the discipline, courage, and loyalty that became hallmarks of his character throughout his life. After retiring from the Marines, he returned home to Missouri, a place he deeply loved, and he later drove a truck for more than thirty years, working hard and taking pride in an honest day’s labor.
Leon was a man who appreciated the simple joys of life and the comfort of being surrounded by family and friends. He loved spending time at the lake, where boating, fishing, and skiing brought him happiness and peace as well as riding his motorcycle. He also enjoyed sitting by the fire with those closest to him, sharing stories and making memories that will be treasured for years to come. From his home, he enjoyed looking out at his cows on the hill behind the house, finding contentment in the familiar sights of the life he built. He had a special love for his German Shepherds and Basset hounds, and although he once disliked cats, Tator won him over in the end.
Leon is survived by his wife, Maurine Sherrill, whom he married on November 11, 2011; five children, Donna Sherrill, Ernest Sherrill, Jr. and his wife, Alma, Jennifer Lutes and her husband, Joseph, Zack Haddock, and Trudy Burrows and her husband, Billy; twenty-one grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Tammy Stark and Bonnie Zubieh and her husband, Ken; a brother, R.C. Moore, Jr.; as well as a host of other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Maudane Sherrill; a daughter, Lea Anne Marchant; and three siblings, Donetta McMillern, Tommy Sherrill, and Tony Sherrill.
