Annette Koch

(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)

Lee Annette “Annette” Koch, 66, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away on May 4, 2026, after a courageous battle with stage IV lung cancer.

Born on December 5, 1959, to Sidney Edward and Perrie Lee Benson, Annette grew up with a strong spirit, a stubborn streak, and a heart that always found its way back to family.

Annette became a mother at a young age, and although life brought challenges, she worked tirelessly to provide for her children. For many years she served as a Certified Nursing Assistant, a role that fit her naturally – she was strong, capable, and unafraid of hard work. Her hands cared for countless people over the decades, and she carried that dedication into her own family.

She is survived by her three daughters – Cristal Hartwig, Amie Blakesley, and Shawna Blakesley and two brothers Dennis Benson and Rick Benson and one sister Rhonda Thornton. She also leaves behind three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, with two on the way, each of whom brought her joy and pride.

Annette was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney Edward and Perrie Lee Benson, and her late husband Kevin Koch, who now welcomes her home.

In her final months, Annette showed remarkable resilience. Even as cancer spread to her brain and body, she had days where her old spark returned – moments her family will hold close forever. She spent her life surrounded by family, and she left this world knowing she was deeply loved.

A celebration of Annette’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to help support her care and final arrangements.

Her story was not perfect, but it was real, and it was hers – Full of grit, forgiveness, and love that endured.
