Peggy Carpenter

(From Parker Mortuary)

Peggy Louise Carpenter, age 79, of Joplin, Missouri, entered into her heavenly home on Friday, May 8, 2026.

Peggy was born on May 28, 1946, in San Bernardino, California, to the late union of Blanford and Myrtle (Potter) Baker. Peggy attended Riverton Schools growing up. As a young girl, Peggy was saved at Fellowship Baptist Church in Baxter Springs while attending with the Butterworth family. She later attended the Southside Baptist Church in Joplin, MO. She served on the board of directors for Access Family Care Clinics from 2006 to 2018.

Towards the end of her career, she served as the primary secretary for 4 years. Peggy’s motto was always to be patient and kind, the person you are facing is fighting a battle you may not know about. Peggy endured many trials, but she always kept her faith and wit. While at the nursing home, she made many friends and loved to share a laugh. A funny laugh she always shared was, when the girls would complain about their spouses, she would say, “Get some mushrooms! That’s why I am a widow three times!” Peggy adored her children and siblings. She was the rock of the family and anytime anyone needed advice they came to her. Peggy touched many lives throughout her life. She will be deeply missed. Although Peggy is not with us anymore, we can be assured that we will see her again in heaven, with no more pain.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by three children, Darla Channel, Darren Channel, and Randy Burris; and six siblings, Loretta Kress, Lois Benton, Orna Jane Ray, Marilyn Caldwell, Jim Baker, and Winton Baker.

Peggy is survived by two children, Dennis Channel, of Raytown, MO, and Douglas Channel, of Iowa; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Sue Mohrman, of Minnesota, Ruthann Morris, of Columbus, KS, and Mary Letner, of Pittsburg, KS.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Alan McCamey officiating. Interment to follow at Hornet Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the special care and direction of Parker Mortuary.
