Johnnie McKnight

Johnnie Raymond McKnight, age 92, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 1:16 a.m. on Friday, May 15, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He was born May 3, 1934, in Carterville, Missouri, the son of Breece Frank and Ida May (Blackburn) McKnight.

Johnnie was a 1952 graduate of Carterville High School in Carterville, Missouri, and was a United States Navy Veteran. He worked for Atlas Powder Company and was a home builder. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Carthage, Missouri.

On September 18, 1992, he married Cora Ann Garner, in Miami, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on December 6, 2011.

Johnnie is survived by two stepsons, Delmar Clevenger and his wife, Janelle, and David Clevenger and his wife, Kelly, all of Joplin, Missouri.

Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, Breece and Ida; his wife, Cora; one son, Johnnie McKnight; one daughter, Lori Kent; one sister and two brothers, Frank and Clarence McKnight.

A private burial will be held at Carterville Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.
