Jimmy Childress

Jimmy Childress, 83, passed away peacefully on September 11th, 2026, leaving behind a legacy as vast and vibrant as the open country that he loved so deeply.

Born on January 29th, 1943, Jimmy was a man who truly belonged to the great outdoors. He was happiest under the open sky, tracking through the woods on a crisp morning or waiting for a bite on a quiet river bank. But above all his outdoor passions, Jimmy’s true joy was found in the saddle. Whether he was exploring rugged trails on horseback or packing into the wilderness on his trusted mules, the backcountry was his sanctuary and his home away from home.

Jimmy lived with a spirit of adventure and a deep appreciation for nature’s quiet moments. He shared his love for the wilderness with those he held so dear, teaching us all to slow down, look around, and enjoy the ride.

His stories of the trail, his grit, and his genuine nature will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of riding alongside of him.

He is survived by a family who loved him dearly including: Teresa Wilson (Terry), of Duncan, Oklahoma; Greg Childress (Terri), of Pierce City, Mo.; Debbie Hazelwood (Denny), of Republic, Mo.; Tammy Riel (Scott), of Sarcoxie, Mo.; Kerry Stutly (Jonnie), of Cape Fair, Mo.; Marsha Perryman, of Aurora, Mo.; one brother, Ronnie Childress (Diane), of Aurora, Mo.; one sister, Linda Mooneyham (Randy), of Republic, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Cherley Childress, of Aurora, Mo.

He also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom held a very special place in his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Lucille Childress, of Aurora, Mo.; one brother, Bobby Childress, of Aurora, Mo.; one daughter, Victoria Archer, of Republic, Mo.

He married Madine Jones Childress, of Cape Fair, Mo. They shared thirty wonderful years together. Theirs was a love story to be told. She preceded him as well.

A celebration of Jimmy’s life and his final trail ride will be held at a later date.
