Charles O. Cossey, age 84, of Duenweg, Mo., passed away on Friday November 6, 2015 at Joplin Health and Rehab Center, following an illness.
Charles was born on October 20, 1931 in Carthage, Mo., the son of the late Jake and Opal (Long) Cossey. He has been an area resident most of his life. He worked at Atlas Powder Company for fourteen years, then moved to New York and worked as a Chemical Superintendent for C.F. Industries in New York and Minnesota, retiring in 1989. He enjoyed going to the MSSU basketball games.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-six years Pat (Thornton) Cossey, Duenweg, Mo.; three daughters, Cheryl Barchak and husband John, Joplin, Cindy Parker and husband Don, Joplin, and Rene Johnson and husband Keith, Riverton, Ks.; two sons, Jeff Simpson and wife Jennifer, Carthage, Mo., and Richard Lee Simpson and wife Alison, Joplin; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Bruns, Joplin; one sister, June Reding and husband Jack, Duenweg, Mo.; one brother, Russell Morrison and wife Francis, Joplin, Mo.; fourteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Cossey; two brothers, Paul Cossey and Freeman Cossey; and one sister, Mary Ann Belew.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Pastor Greg Gooch will officiate. Burial will be in Stone Cemetery near Diamond, Mo.The pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons.
The family will receive friends 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
