(From Parker Mortuary)
Helen Patricia Darr, 92 passed Saturday, November 7, 2015 after a brief illness but a very long, prosperous and fulfilled life. She was surrounded by her family as she stepped across to heaven to join her husband Joe, her sister Agnes "Connie", and her many other dear family and friends gone before her.
Helen was born at home on the family farm in Neosho, MO, October 2, 1923. She was first generation U.S. citizen with an Austrian heritage.
She received her solo pilot's license in 1953. Shortly thereafter she met and married Joseph Dean Darr and enjoyed fifty three years of marriage before Joe's passing in 2008.
Helen's career began as a switchboard operator at Camp Crowder during World War II. She continued at Southwestern Bell where she retired after 42 years. Following retirement Helen enjoyed hobbies such as ceramics, scrapbooking, handywoman, shopping, and her role as "Mamo", grandmother of Nicole.
Helen has left behind a son Mike (wife Ellon), daughter Pam (husband George), granddaughters Nicole (Brendan) and Kelli (Jeremy), great grandchildren Liam, Olivia and Ezra, and niece Karen who was loved like a daughter. Helen created a legacy of love, respect, hard work, and caring for others. We could not be more proud of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
