Ellen Shirlene Camerer Gamble, 77, Granby, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home in Granby on Sunday, Nov 1st, after a courageous battle with cancer.
From her birth on April 12, 1938 to her death on Saturday, she was a strong woman, dedicated to her family, community and loved by the many students she served over the years. Ellen graduated from Granby High School in 1956, she received a Master’s Degree, specializing in reading from Drury University in 1972. She was a teacher for the East Newton School District for 23 years. Ellen was many things in her lifetime, a student, teacher, wife, mother, grandmother and daughter and baby sister. She was passionate about education and providing opportunities for students to learn and derived great joy and satisfaction from her work with them. She was a beloved soul, a remarkable cook and took great pleasure in cooking and sharing good food with friends and family. She enjoyed music, liked to dance and was an avid sports fan.
Ellen married the love of her life, Kenneth Gamble on October 5, 1956 and they shared 59 years together. In addition to Ken, Ellen is survived by three children, son, Monty Gamble; two daughters, Julie Gamble Weding and husband, Chris and Marla Gamble and wife, Susanna; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren and sisters in law, Sadie Gamble, Jacquelyn Camerer, Hazel Gamble, Dortha Gamble and Patricia Gamble. She is preceded in death by her parents, Gustave and Goldie (White) Camerer; brothers, Rex, Wayne and Richard Camerer and sister, Marylou Merritt.
