Edgar Neer, Jr., age 91, of Joplin, passed away on Tuesday November 10, 2015, at Mercy Hospital, following an illness.
Edgar was born on February 29, 1924 in Neodesha, Ks., the son of the late Edgar Neer, Sr. and Katherine (Powers) Neer. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of WWII. He worked as an electrician for Standard Oil Company, retiring in the early 1980’s. He was a member of the Joplin Family Worship Center. He enjoyed painting, writing short stories and poetry, and carving peach seeds into small animals. His carvings are very well known in this area, and most of his carvings were buffalos.
He married Virginia Lee Harvey on June 3, 1945 in LaGrand, Or. She preceded in death on March 5, 2006.
Edgar is survived by one daughter, Cindy Mallinak and husband John, Houston, Tx.; two sons, Brant Neer and wife Michelle, Lexington, Mo., and Robert Wedgeworth, Carl Jct., Mo.; two sisters, Grace Butler, LaGrand, Or., and Mary Sowards, Moore, Id.; three brothers, George Neer, LaGrand, Or., Ben Neer, Moore, Id., and Frank Neer, Hermiston, Or.; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and many extended family members.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Pastor Dan Wermuth will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Neodesha Cemetery in Neodesha, Ks. the pallbearers will be Evan Neer, Jeffrey Neer, Adam Neer, Robert Wedgeworth, Jr., Barry Green, and Josh McClarnon.
The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. Saturday prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be given to “Art Feeds National”, “Peterson Outdoors”, or “The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation”, in care of the mortuary.
