Shirley Grider

Shirley Mae Grider, age 78, passed away from this life on Sunday, November 8, 2015 after a long illness. She was a resident of the Granby House Nursing Home.

Shirley was born August 16, 1937 in Columbus, Indiana to the late Roscoe Newland and Pauline Bishop Newland. She was the eldest of eight siblings.

She is survived by her husband and 50 year love of her life, James O. 'Jim' Grider, of the home; four children, Bruce Settles, Columbus, Indiana, Cindy Settles, Carterville, Debbie West, Oronogo, Vickie Gummert, Marshall Town, Iowa; siblings, Don Newland, Columbus, Indiana, Ralph Newland, Columbus, Indiana, Eddie Newland, Rock Hill, South Carolina, Patty Schulz, Cape Coral, Florida, Peggy Turnmire, Hope, Indiana, Carol Lewis, Spokane, Washington; six grandchildren, Tammy Lebrecht, Marie Lane, Marti Jo Ferneau, April West, Tim West, Jessica Neff; six great grandchildren and several extended family members.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by a son, Charles Settles and a brother, Jerry Newland.

Shirley worked all her life, lastly for Motorola before she and James started their own business, Broadway Antiques in Webb City. She also sold antiques on Ebay, going by the name of 'Junkin Granny'. She was well thought of by the Ebay community.

Shirley was an avid Jewel T collector and searched for those items at auctions and flea markets constantly, even being interviewed about her collection by the local newspaper.

Services are planned for Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Mount Hope Cemetery Indoor Chapel. Rev. Eric Halvorson will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the chapel at Mount Hope. Pallbearers will be John West, Tim West, Chris Neff, Kim Keen, Rick Seeley and Justin Dennison. Memorial contributions may be made to the Granby House Nursing Home, in care of Parker Mortuary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
