Robert N. Smith (Bob) of Ongo, Missouri, passed away July 16, 2020. He was born January 15, 1934, to John Edward Smith and Georgia Dottie (Crowe).
After graduating from Ava High School he joined the U.S. Army and served for two years. Upon the completion of his service to the army he moved to Joliet, Illinois to begin his first job. Eventually, Bob obtained a job at Caterpillar where he worked for 33 years. He began as a welder and retired as a machine inspector.
Bob and Helen (Hight) were married July 25, 1981, in Joplin, Missouri and were married for almost 39 years. After retiring from Caterpillar, Bob and Helen moved back to Joplin, Missouri.
He is survived by his wife, Helen and one sister, Helen Gillespie. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother – James Edward, Jr., sister – Mary, sister – Martha, and sister – Rose. He will be missed by all of his family and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, July, 22, 2020 at the Calvary Church of the Nazarene, 2802 Connecticut, Joplin. Burial will be at Carl Junction Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Calvary Church of the Nazarene, in Robert’s name.
