Luella Grannemann

Luella Carrie (Mein) Grannemann of rural Walnut, KS, fell asleep in the Lord at age 98 on July 21, 2020. 

Luella was born July 30, 1921 to John F. and Carrie (Miesner) Mein in rural Hepler, KS. She was baptized on August 14, 1921, and she was confirmed on April 14, 1935, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hepler, where she also attended the Immanuel Lutheran School. Her confirmation verse was John 14:6, “Jesus saith unto him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.’” Her confirmation hymn was “In the Hour of Trial.” 

She married Raymond Grannemann at Immanuel on January 26, 1947. They rejoiced in 46 years of wedded life together until Raymond preceded her into death on March 22, 1993. 

As a lifelong member of Immanuel, Luella was very involved in the life of the congregation. She had been active in the Ladies Aid Society for over 55 years, she served on the altar guild for many years, and had been a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the Ladies Bible Class. She had also served the congregation as a Sunday school teacher. In recent years she was an affiliated member of the Seminary Guild of Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN. 

Luella is survived by a son Donnie who provided her with a home after the death of her husband Raymond, and a daughter Lynette and her husband Rev. Galen Friedrichs of Lamar, MO; grandson Dr. Martin Friedrichs and wife Aja of Naples, FL; granddaughter Sarah and husband Rev. Josh Osbun of Wyatt, IN; grandson Andrew Friedrichs and wife Emily of Chesterfield, MO; great grandchildren: Hannah, Aiden, Audrey, Levi, and Clara Friedrichs, and Evelyn, Cecilia, Katherine, Lydia, and Ruth Osbun; nieces Mary Lou Strahm, Shirley Kaiser, Vickie Woodward, Connie McFarland, and Alice Grotheer; and nephews Rayburn Mein, Rev. Dean Von Stroh, Elwyn Mein, Dr. Calvin Mein, Alan Mein, John Carl Mein, Richard Mein, and William Mein. 

Luella was preceded into death by her husband Raymond; sister Hulda Von Stroh; brothers Roy, Albert, and Reinhard Mein; great grandson Peter Osbun and great granddaughter Abiah Friedrichs; niece Norma Niedner and nephew Dr. Gordon Von Stroh. 

Luella’s body will be laid to rest in the Immanuel Lutheran Church cemetery to await the return of our Lord. 

Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.’ ” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them.” – Rev. 14:13

Funeral services were held on Monday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Hepler with Pastor Michael Apsel officiating. Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Hepler.
