Charles Walters

Charles G. Walters, 89, a longtime Jasper, MO resident and current resident at Truman Health and Rehab in Lamar, MO passed away July 9, 2020 at 6:30 PM after a three-day battle with sepsis.

He was born January 28, 1931 in Nevada, MO and lost his mother to tuberculosis at the age of 11. He was adopted and worked for an old farm couple until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1954. He served from 1954 to 1956 and left the military with the rank of Corporal. 

Charles returned to the Nevada area where he married Jessie Pinkman and had Leland. 

They divorced and Charles raised Leland as a single father until he met Elaine Barrett, who was raising her son Kevin on her own. They married on September 5, 1964 and have remained married for 55 years. Charles and Elaine moved to Truman Health and Rehab six years ago and Elaine is still a resident there. 








He worked in many different grain elevators in the area including Producers of Grain in Nevada, MO, MFA and Manevals of Jasper, MO and MFA of Lamar, MO. He retired at the age of 73. Charles was a family man who worked hard to provide for his family, working two and three jobs when needed. He enjoyed his grandchildren and camping.

Charles is survived by his wife and two sons; Leland Walters of Kimberling City, MO and David Walters of Lamar, MO. He is also survived by and blessed with his grandchildren; Moriah Cruse of Lamar, MO, and David Walters of Jasper, MO, 5 great-grandchildren; Eden and Parker Cruse of Lamar, MO and Addey, Myrah and DJ Walters of Jasper, MO, and a brother Claude Layton of Alba, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepparents, and a son Kevin Walters.
A graveside service, under the direction of Konantz Warden Funeral Home will be held Thursday July 16, 2020 at 11:30 AM at Waters Cemetery in Jasper, MO.
