Joan Elizabeth Robertson, 73, of Sarcoxie, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2020 at Joplin Mercy Hospital with her family by her side.
She was born to the late Granville and Lola Buchanan, October 13, 1946 in Monett, Missouri. Joan graduated from Pierce City High School in 1964.
Thanks to mutual friends, a blind date with a local fella named David Robertson began what would become “their love story”. Joan and Dave married on October 5, 1963 at Morningside Baptist Church in Sarcoxie, Missouri.
Along with her husband, Dave, Joan is also survived by her children, Dennis Robertson (Teresa) and Peggy Heman (Mike). Additional survivors include her five grandchildren, Elizabeth Carr (Jeremy), Kyle Heman (Harlee), Shaw Robertson (Lauren), Adam Robertson and Kaitlyn Heman; Joan’s great-grandchildren include, Paisley Hance, Axel Heman, Elsie Robertson, Jared Smith, Aubrey Carr and Brooklyn Carr.
Joan leaves behind an uncle, Jerry Lucky; and a nephew, Rocky Dunlap (Roxanna); and a host of other relatives and friends close to her heart.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her older sister, Joyce Dunlap Graves.
Joan enjoyed sewing, baking and her embroidery projects until rheumatoid arthritis caused a decline in her health. Dave and Joan both enjoyed spending time taking road trips together which most always included a stop for a good meal or just some ice cream.
For numerous years Joan was a hair stylist. Many local women had the opportunity to sit in her salon chair and receive a perm, color, haircut or just a visit to catch up on all the “happenings” of her small town she loved. However, once grandchildren came along, she packed away her scissors to spend more time with family. Joan was proud of each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved them immensely. A living room filled with all their photos is proof of this!
We will forever carry her memory in our hearts. Matthew 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
