(From Ulmer Funeral Home)Lessie Marie Bennett age 90, of Carthage passed away Saturday at 3:50 p.m. at St. Luke's Nursing Center in Carthage. Lessie was the born the daughter of the late Thomas Edgar Roberson and Cordealia "Cates" Roberson on January 25, 1931 in Ripley County MO.
Lessie was raised in Doniphan MO area and later met and married her husband Bob Bennett on September 18, 1952 in Pocahontas AR.
Over the years Lessie was always a beautician, she worked as a beautician her entire working career and also worked in the cafeteria at the Columbian school Carthage R-9 and had been a beautician at St. Luke's for 38 years, she did not retire until 83 years of age.
Lessie was a member of the Grand Avenue Church of God. She loved to cook and sew, she was an avid quilter making at least 150 quilts or more to her credit.
Lessie is survived by her three children one son, Van Bennett(Terri) of Carthage and two daughters, Joni Zieger(Jim)Pleasant Hill MO and Marcy Dollens-Rear(Tim) Battlefield MO. eight grandchildren Jennifer E. Becker, Brennan V. Bennett, Jessica Marie Edwards, Jaime Lynn Hurt, James Joseph Zieger Jr., Meagan Leigh Dollens, Trey Bennett Dollens and Tanner Mason Dollens. three great grandchildren and three more on the way.
Lessie was preceeded in death by her husband Bob on February 22, 1995. She was also preceeded by her 3 brothers Ray, Arvel, and Gene Roberson as well as two sisters Dessie Johnson and Gussie Roberson.
Service for Lessie have been set for Wednesday at September 8,2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Ulmer Funeral Home with a visitation prior to service from 9:00 to 10:00. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery Carthage.
