(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)David C. Keeton, 66, of Webb City, changed his address on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, surrounded by those who loved him.
David was born July 19, 1956, in Richards, Missouri, to the late Omer and Ruby (McClellan) Keeton. He was a 1974 graduate of Webb City High School, where Cardinal football solidified his love for the game the remainder of his lifetime.
No stranger to the football field, David refereed high school football for 44 years. He enjoyed coaching the youth, always sure to take advantage of every teachable moment for them.
As a Kansas City Chiefs fan, he never missed a game on Sunday. Getting together with family and friends “tailgating” only made the game that much better.
On August 24, 1979, David married the love of his life, Lisa Elbert, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Joplin and together they had two sons, Travis and Aaron. Everything good is fitting to describe who David was to his family – he was a sound moral compass and always took the high road. David did it right and his glass was half full. He was always there for his family and put them first in everything he did.
David was soft-spoken but he truly came alive around those that meant the world to him. He had a way of giving you the guidance he thought you needed but gave you the opportunity to apply it in your own way. David loved the outdoors – everything from working in the yard, to fishing, to doing what the Lord created the outdoors for – duck hunting. The duck blind was a sacred place to build friendships, memories, and it was his place of peace. He had the good life figured out.
His favorite role was the role he was able to play as a “Pappy” to his four granddaughters. They were the absolute spark of his life, always putting that special pep in his step that nobody else could. There will never be a better Pappy.

David is lovingly survived by his wife, Lisa; two sons, Travis Keeton-wife DeAnna-of Webb City and their daughters, Payten and Ella, and Aaron Keeton-wife Charlee-of Webb City and their daughters, Millie and Haddie; his brother, Terry Keeton-wife Emilie-of Joplin; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
David was truly the best in each role he served – husband, father, Pappy and friend. He was loved by many and will always be remembered.
Rosary will be recited at 9:45 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2023 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Joplin with Visitation following at 10:00 a.m. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday with Father Colby Elbert officiating. Committal of Ashes will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Solace House of the Ozarks.
