Mike Harris

James Michael “Mike” Harris, 77, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2023. He was born in Carthage on November 9, 1945, to James Stanley Harris and Bonnie Jean Janney. 

Mike was a lifetime Carthage resident. He graduated from Carthage High School, Class of 1963. Mike also proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam, Thailand, and England. He then worked at Steadley Corporation and Leggett & Platt for 30+ years, retiring in 2012. 

Mike served as a city council member in Carthage for 11 years and was the Carthage Mayor from 2010 to 2018.







Mike was united in marriage to Kelly Still on October 30, 1992, in Miami, Oklahoma; she survives.

Mike is survived by his wife, Kelly Harris; five daughters, Heather Harris (Chris McDermott) of Alexandria, Virginia, Annie Goodwin (John) of Dawsonville, Georgia, Alexandria Hodkin (Eric) of Carthage, Missouri, Erin Harris-Ward (Dion) of Carthage, Missouri, and Addison Peavler (Alvin) of Carl Junction, Missouri; one daughter-in-law, Amy Harris of Morton, Illinois; eleven grandchildren, Addison, Finn, Avery, William, Carson, Cameron, Dakota, Mason, Aubrey, Benjamin, and Theodore; mother, Bonnie Harris; one brother, John Harris (Danielle) of Joplin, Missouri; one sister, Nancy Hutchins (Chuck) of Carthage, Missouri; and two sisters-in-law, Elaine and Tammy Harris.









Mike is preceded in death by his father, James Harris; son, Heath Harris on August 7, 2017; and two brothers, Steve and Richard Harris.

Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2023, at First United Methodist Church in Carthage, Missouri. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2023, at First United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Fasken Cemetery in Carthage, Missouri.
