(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Connie Lou Carter, age 70, passed away at 1:15 pm, Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Galena Nursing and Rehab Center, Galena, KS following an illness.
Connie was born August 19, 1952 in Joplin, MO. Her parents were Johnnie Richard and Betty Sue (Young) Nichols. She was a lifetime resident of Cherokee County, KS.
She graduated from Baxter Springs High School with the class of 1971. She worked at Medicalodge of Columbus, KS for 32, retiring as a laundry supervisor in housekeeping.
She was a member of Empire Mission Church, Galena, KS. She enjoyed fishing, watching TV and playing bingo at the nursing home. Her greatest joy was visiting her friends and family.
Connie was married to Daniel Carter on October 19, 1974 in Galena, KS. He preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Linda Kay Nichols.

She is survived by two brothers, Richard Nichols and Gary Nichols, both of Baxter Springs, KS; one sister Kelly Schnieders, Baxter Springs; one niece she helped raise Brianna Anderson, Neosho. MO ; three nephews, Brandon Schnieders (Melissa),Austin Schnieders, Brenton McElhaney, Brandon Smith & Josh Smith ; one great-nephew, Noah Schnieders; and two great -nieces Sofia Marney and Ellie Schnieders.
She was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS for cremation. The family has scheduled a memorial service at 2:00 pm, Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Empire Mission Church, Galena, KS. She will be laid to rest at Faskin Cemetery, Jasper, MO.
