James Lawhead

James Ray Lawhead, 75 of Baxter Springs, KS passed from this life on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.

James was born January 28, 1948 in Claremore, OK to the union of James Harvey Lawhead and Ruby (Dewees) Lawhead.

James was united in marriage to Frances (Pulley) Lawhead on April 28, 1984 in Miami, OK.








James worked as an over the road truck driver for 28 years, retiring in 2015. He also enjoyed doing leather work. James’s hobbies included boating, leather works, being outdoors, and was known to many people as a handy man and would help with any project someone had. James was a proud member of the Cherokee Nation. James was Baptized at the First Baptist Church, Picher, OK in 1983.

James is preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruby Lawhead; brother, Jerry Lawhead; sisters, Janis Turner, Emily Buchanan.








James is survived by his wife Frances Lawhead of the home; two sons, James R. Lawhead of Wichita, KS, and Michael D. Lawhead and wife Wendy of Claremore, OK; sisters, Debbie Seargant of Joplin, MO, Mary Purscelley of Grove, OK, Dorothy Bennett of Colcord, OK, and Marlene Boyd of Lawton, OK; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Also, nieces, nephews, cousins, brother-in-law’s.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. Pastor’s Gary Rhodes and Claude Craig will officiate. Burial will follow in the Lowell Cemetery.
