Dorothy O. Christianson, age 95, formerly of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at her home in Galena, Kansas.
Dorothy was born March 19, 1922 in Hood River, Oregon to the late Frank Root and Libbie Seeley. She worked as an L.P.N. for several years. Dorothy had quite an adventure for her life. She married Dr. (Col.) Charles Christianson in Portland, Oregon and then traveled the world to places such as Panama, Japan and Korea. With five daughters in tow, she loved to learn the culture and food of each country. Dorothy was so energetic in all of her endeavors. When Dr. Christianson retired, they moved to Mt. Vernon where he was Chief of Medicine for the Chest Hospital on the hill. She was a big influence and help in music, Girl Scouts, AFS and Federation of Music Club. She was so involved in her community that she received the Mt. Vernon Women of The Year award. She was also of the Episcopal faith.
She is survived by four daughters, Pamela Sage and husband, Skip of Springfield, Missouri, Julie Farmer and husband, Rick of Carthage, Stephanie Hyatt of Galena, Kansas and Rev. Regina Whitely and husband, Stephen of Chatham, Virginia; grandchildren, Chris Farmer and wife, Stephanie of Bentonville, Arkansas, Quintin Farmer and wife, Tiffany of Webb City, Shelly Sage of Springfield, Franklin Hyatt of Joplin and Joy Borderson of Springfield, plus eight great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one daughter, Marilyn Christianson.
No services are planned at this time and cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
