Wanda Howerton

Wanda D. Howerton, 81, Carthage, MO, passed away Monday evening, March 27, 2017 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO. Wanda Darlene Moore was born October 4, 1935 in Pennsboro, MO to the late Wherry Moore and Leona Francis (Poe) Moore. She graduated from Greenfield High School, Class of 1953. Wanda retired from Fred’s Frozen Foods in Carthage after 33 years of service. She married Keith W. Howerton on October 4, 1968 in Bentonville, AR; he preceded her in death. Wanda was a member of the Covenant World Outreach Church, Carthage, MO.

Survivors include three sons, David Dean Sexton (wife Michele), Carthage, MO, Danny Alan Sexton (wife Kendra), Carthage, MO, and Davin Ray Sexton, Carthage, MO; one daughter, Darla Kay Hasty (husband Patrick), Jacksonville, FL; one brother, David James Moore, Clinton, MO; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Debra Sue McNary, and five brothers, John Moore, Ralph Moore, Roy Moore, Marion Moore, and Billy Moore, and her beloved dog Scruffy.

Visitation will be held 6:00-6:30 p.m., Friday, March 31, 2017 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage, MO. Memorial services will follow the visitation at 6:30 p.m. Fr. Steve Wilson will officiate. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorial gifts are suggested to Salvation Army or Children’s Miracle Network in care of Knell Mortuary, 308 W. Chestnut, Carthage, MO 64836.
