Laura Thompson

Laura Naomi Wright Thompson, age 92, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 4:39 AM. 

She was born Tuesday, July 22, 1924 near Cane Hill, Arkansas to LeGrande and Altha Wright and was the 8th of 9 children. Her mother, father and all her siblings preceded her in death. She lived 60 years at a farm near Asbury, Missouri and most recently at Foxberry Terrace Assisted Living. She graduated high school at Evansville, Arkansas. In 1942 Laura took a course in building airplanes and worked during WWII for North American Aviation until the war ended. She met J.C. Thompson in Kansas City, Mo and they were married after he came home from the war. She then became a homemaker, and was active as a 4-H Club Leader, member of United Methodist Church of Asbury, Sunday school teacher, and in ladies extension club. After J.C.'s death in 1968 she raised her teenage children, managed the farm and found employment at St. Johns Medical Center in Joplin, Missouri. In 1983 she retired to travel all over the United States with her friend Clifford Sandoz. 

Laura is survived by a son Ron Thompson (Melissa) of Joplin, MO, a son, Bruce Thompson (Launa) of Oronogo, MO, and a daughter Nancy Collard (David) of Webb City, MO; along with 10 grandchildren, Stephane Vanderpas, Ty Thompson, Breck Choka, Matthew Collard (Amy), Justin Collard (Heather), Ashlee Stanley (JW), Adam Collard (Jennifer), Israel Thompson (Elesha), Ryan Thompson (Nikki) and Chris Thompson (Tallie). Laura also has 25 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren and a large extended family. 

Funeral services for Laura will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until the service time at 11:00. Bob Simon and Diana Ytell will officiate. Burial will follow at Crocker Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
