Susie Smith

Carolyn “Susie” Smith passed from this life on June 28, 2020 at her home after a short battle with Multiple Myeloma. She was born January 15, 1946 in Webb City, Missouri to Olen and Peggy Redden. 

Susie grew up in Purcell, Missouri and graduated from Alba High School in 1963. Susie worked many jobs throughout her life, from a nurse’s aide, school cook, retail, but her most recent and favorite job was at Downstream Casino.

Her favorite things included being called “Gram”, watching her great-grandchildren play sports, Bunco, playing the slots, the Seattle Seahawks, Vicks (her cure-all for everything) and the beach. 








Survivors include her son, Rusty Smith, daughter, Trish Cornell and husband Alan, grandchildren, Blaine Smith and wife Lydia, Nicolas Smith and fiancé Joy Branch, Brittany Heilbrun and husband David, Chandler Hance and husband Eric; great-grandchildren Emre Smith, Cooper, Gauge and Hadley Heilbrun, Mason and Brooklyn Hance. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Butch Redden.

A life celebration will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2020 from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. at Fat & Happy, 5806 N. Main Street, Joplin, Missouri. The restaurant will be closed to the public at this time.
