Shirley Prier

(From Parker Mortuary)

Mrs. Shirley Jean Prier, 91, of Spring City, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, peacefully, at Joplin Gardens in Joplin, Missouri, after a recent decline in health.

Shirley was born July 25, 1930 in Carterville, Missouri to the late Walter and Elsie (Jones) Sharp. She was a 1948 graduate of Carterville High School, and a lifelong resident of the Joplin area.

On January 16, 1949, she was united in marriage to Nelson Wayne Prier in Joplin, Missouri. Together they had two sons, and shared 62 precious years together before his passing on April 17, 2011.

Shirley was a devoted Christian, having been a longtime member of Carterville First Baptist Church, and a member of Spring City Baptist Church for the past 50+ years. She taught Sunday School and helped with Vacation Bible School for many years. She had also worked outside the home for several years, and retired as a dietician from Freeman Hospital. She loved her flowers and birds, but most of all, her family – children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews…all of them. Shirley will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was also preceded in death by her brother, Glenn Sharp; and sister, Louise Phillips.

Shirley is lovingly survived by her sons, Phil Prier and wife Linda of Owasso, Oklahoma, Terry Prier and wife, Vicki, of Spring City, Missouri; four grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, September 13, 2021 at Parker Mortuary Chapel with John Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Hornet Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 1:00 pm until service time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Gideon's International.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
