(From Brenner Mortuary)
Edwina Cohen, 81, of Joplin, MO departed this life, from the arms of her daughter, into the arms of her Jesus. She was surrounded by family, on Monday evening, November 14, 2016 at Spring River Christian Village in Joplin.
Edwina was born on December 13, 1934, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Nathalee (Thomas) Smith, of Neosho, MO. She was raised in Neosho and graduated from Neosho High school with the class of 1953. She returned to the Neosho School District, where she worked for many years as a school teacher, retiring in 1997. Her retirement allowed MeMa Edwina to enjoy her hobbies: sewing, crafting, traveling with her husband, and spending time with her grandkids. MaMaw confessed her life to Christ and attended services with the Baptist Church.
January 1, 1986 in Neosho, MO Edwina married Maurice Cohen. Papa Morry was a blessing to her family, and they shared many wonderful memories together until his passing on July 6, 2009.
Edwina was blessed with three wonderful children, who are eternally grateful for her unconditional love: her son, Kenny Davis and fiancée Penny Bowerman, of Joplin; and her daughters, Jan Haddock and husband Raymond, of Monett and Holly Woodward and husband Keith, of Neosho. She is also survived by one sister, Bonnie Grey and husband Phillip of Drakesboro, KY; her grandchildren, Chad Haddock and wife Amy, Nathan Haddock and wife Ashley, Haylie Culp and husband Nathan, and Katelyn Davis; five great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Grandma Wina was welcomed home by those who preceded her in passing: her parents, her husband and sister, Janice Tanner.
Following cremation, her family will welcome guests to celebrate her life at a graveside service held at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Neosho on Saturday, November 19th, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. Reverend Truman Brady will officiate the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
