Fred L. Compton was born December 16, 1935 in the Sagamount area to the late Emory “Dick” and Ovola (Burgess) Compton. He has been a lifelong area resident.
He served in the United States Navy from 1953-1956 in the Korean Conflict as a Gunner-mate 2nd Class Ordinance, during this time he married the love of his life, Norine Hauser, June 1954 in Joplin, MO.
Upon Honorable Discharge Fred became a member of IBEW Local 95 and completed the apprenticeship program to become a journeyman electrician. He furthered his career path with IBEW to serve as Business Manager in Joplin. In 1977 he was appointed to be an International Representative of IBEW 11th District; continuing to serve nationwide for 22 years until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Norine, of 62 years; additional survivors include daughters; Camie Woolever and boyfriend Butch England, Pam Clark and husband Mike; four grandchildren, Leslie Hawkins and husband Hawk, Meggan Steverson and fiancé Justin Dimetroff, Shana McAnally and husband Josh; Jesse Shoemaker and fiancé Leann Barker; nine great grandchildren: Colten, Haleigh, Garren, Maddie, Alivia, Sadie, Taryn, Sean, and Kendall; three great-great grandchildren: Wyatt, Evie and Skye; brother, Charles Compton and wife Pat.
Other than his parents, Fred was preceded in death by brothers, Bob and Paul Compton.
Upon retirement Fred and Norine enjoyed becoming “Snow Birds” traveling to Yuma, Arizona for the last 18 years during the winter months. During this time, they enjoyed life together, meeting wonderful friends from all over the United States and Canada. Fred was known and loved by everyone who had the privilege of meeting him; he never met a stranger. He was an amazing husband, father and grandpa. We are all honored to have had him in our lives. He will be dearly missed and has left a void in all of our hearts.
Funeral services are planned for Wednesday, November 23 at 10:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary with burial to follow at Saginaw Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in care of the mortuary.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
