Jean was born August 23, 1931 in Jay, Oklahoma, the daughter of Howard and Gladys (Richards) Bishop. She married Robert Roy on July 30, 1950 at Oakwood Christian Church, Neosho and they shared 37 years together until his passing in 1987. Bob and Jean had lived in Neosho, Wichita, Kansas, Anderson, Monett and Carl Junction. While living in Carl Junction, they operated Bob Roy TV and Appliance and Bob Roy Realty.
Jean had been an active member of the Joplin Board of Realtors and in 2004 was honored as Realtor of the year. She was active in the Carl Junction Chamber of Commerce, the Cultivators Garden Club and the Carl Junction Christian Church. Because of her commitment and dedication to her community, Jean was honored as Grand Marshall of the Christmas Parade in 2002; recipient of the Citizen of the Year award from the Chamber in 2014 and in 2013 the Cultivators Club constructed the ‘Jean Roy Pavilion’ at Memorial Park. She served on any committee she could to be able to improve her community and the lives of other people. The word ‘no’ was not in her vocabulary.
Jean is survived by two daughters, Pamela Fitzmaurice and husband, Jim of Columbia and Lori Nelson and husband, Mark of Springfield; two sons, Randy Roy and wife, Londa of Carl Junction and Lance Roy of Bradenton, FL; grandchildren, Chris Roy and wife, Angie of Bella Vista, AR; Chad Roy and wife, Ashely of Philadelphia, PA; Christy Hutton and husband, Howard of Columbia; James Fitzmaurice, Adam Roy and Madeline Nelson and six great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by five siblings, Curt Bishop and wife, Pat; Carolyn Camerer and husband, Clyde; Naomi Cooper and husband, Jim; Patsy Burr and husband, Fred and Rick Bishop and wife, Doris. She was proud to be the matriarch of her family of 124!
