Clara Alice “Marie” (Watson) Arehart, age 78 of Galena, passed away at Galena Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at 7:26 PM on Wednesday, November 28, 2018.
Marie was born on January 27, 1940 in Galena, KS to the union of Harvey Jayhue Watson, Sr. and Bessie May (Huffman) Watson. She graduated from Galena High School with the Class of 1957 as the Valedictorian.
She worked at Galena Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for 37 years both as a Certified CNA and the housekeeping supervisor. As a faithful member of the Galena Assembly of God, she spent hours studying her bible, and even took high-level bible classes, often achieving the highest final grade in those classes. She enjoyed her time at the Galena Senior Citizen’s Center working puzzles, participating in their activities, and visiting with friends. She was the “World’s Greatest Mom”, and her love was shown through her actions by sewing her children clothes and dresses, and making professional quality cakes for their parties and other gatherings.
She was united in marriage with Charles “Richard” Arehart, Sr. on September 21, 1958 in Joplin, MO. He preceded her in death on August 24, 2012.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Harvey, Sr. and Bessie; one brother, Harvey Watson, Jr. and his wife, Linda Watson; two sisters, Lyla Asbell and Grace Poelma; and one niece, Marie Edwards.
Survivors include two sons, Rick Arehart of Joplin, and Gene Arehart (wife, Kari) of Joplin; two daughtrees, Angela Griffin of Joplin, and Teresa Cooper (husband, Carlos McHenry) of Broken Arrow, OK; two brothers, Henry Watson (wife, Elaine) of Frontenac, and Homer Watson (wife, Debra) of Schertz, TX; one sister, Anne Cox of Galena; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Arehart was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena for cremation. A memorial service will be held at the Galena Assembly of God at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, December 4, 2018. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
