Phyllis S. (Nichols) Stanbery Turner was born Jan. 13, 1935 to Albert and Joyce Nichols in Fairview, Missouri. Phyllis went to meet her Lord and Savior on Nov. 17, 2018 at the age of 83.
She attended public schools until her senior year of high school. While a junior in high school, Phyllis gave her heart to God. Starting her senior year, she went to the Independence Bible School in Independence, Kansas, where she graduated and was called to preach the Gospel. After graduation, she held several revivals and traveled preaching the Word and helping out with revivals. In the early 1970s she was pastor of the Independence School House near Sarcoxie, MO. In 1979, Phyllis became pastor of the Granby Holiness Church and moved to Granby to pastor the church until her death. In 1969, Phyllis starting working with Paul and Mulva Smith as secretary for the Old Country Church Broadcast and following the Smiths’ deaths, she continued with the Broadcast as director until its closing in 2016.
Phyllis married Ralph W. Stanbery on Feb. 12, 1960 and he preceded her in death on April 22, 1998. She later married Gene Turner and he survives. Additional survivors include two sons and daughters in law, Kerry and Sandra Stanbery and David and Lisa Stanbery, all who reside in Granby; four grandchildren, Eric (Heather) Stanbery of New Philadelphia, OH; Justin (Shari) Stanbery of Diamond; Samantha (Shaun) Athey of Joplin; Matthew Lyndria) Stanbery of Granby; great granddaughters, Alexis and Amanda Stanbery; brothers, David (Eve) Nichols of Lawrence, KS; sister, Janice Randolph of Independence, KS; three stepbrothers and stepsisters, Carrell Day, Donald Day and Carolyn Day; sister in law, Oreta (Bill) Irons of Big Cabin, OK; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
In addition to her husband, Ralph and parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, a sister, great nephew; seven stepbrothers and stepsisters. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018 at 10 am at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel in Granby, Albert Schaper and Joe Davolt will officiate. Interment will follow in the VanBuren (Black Fox) Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be Justin Stanbery, Matthew Stanbery, Kevin Johnson, Kevin Bidwell, Duane Spencer and Colin Knight and honorary pallbearers, Jimmie Nichols and Ronnie Nichols. The family will receive friends, Friday evening from 5:30 to 7 pm at the Clark Funeral Home, Granby.
