Brenda Elaine Hicks, age 59, Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Mercy of Joplin after battling cancer.
Brenda was born December 3, 1960 in Santa Monica, California. She was the daughter of Robert W. Farney and Glendoris Huffman Farney. She was an Elementary Special Education teacher in Carl Junction, Missouri and retired in May 2019 after teaching for 21 years.
She had a love for animals, children and teaching. She enjoyed antique shopping, gardening, watching horror movies, reading, and spending time with her family. She attended the Sheep Shed Church for the last few years.
She was best known for her big heart. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald E. Hicks of Joplin, Missouri, whom she married in 1989; her two children, Ronald T. Hicks and Sarah N. Hicks of Durant, Oklahoma; her sisters, Yvette Maez and Kathy Farrugia of Phoenix, Arizona; and her brother Robert W. Farney, II of Portland, Oregon.
A memorial service was held on Friday, December 20, 2019 in Parker Mortuary Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the mortuary.
