Marvin Lavell Gardner, age 83, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 7:56 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2019, at the Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He was born November 9, 1936, in Walnut Shade, Missouri, the son of Adren and Opal (Gray) Gardner.
Marvin was a self-employed carpenter, enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting and attended Northside Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.
On May 28, 1974, he married Doris Mullins, in Marionville, Missouri.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 45 years, Doris; four daughters, Arletta Hadlow, of Aurora, Missouri; Emma Ormsby and her husband, John, of Aurora; Laura Richardson and her husband, Rex, of Calhoun, Missouri; and Lucinda Hall and her husband, Bruce, of Mt. Vernon; three sons, Paul Elsey of Joplin, Missouri; Dan Elsey and his wife, Bonnie, of New Hope, Minnesota; and Pat Elsey and his wife, Liz, of Mt. Vernon; one sister, Lola Eslinger of Springfield, Missouri; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Adren and Opal; son, Marion Gardner; and two sisters, Vera Woolsey and Vivian Ewing.
Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Online condolences may be shared at www.FossettMosherFuneralHome.com
