Edythe Kirby

It is with great sadness that the family of Edythe L. Kirby,”Edye,” announces her passing on Friday December 13, 2019. Edythe was 69 years young, she was born on February 27, 1950 in Wichita, Kansas to Howard and LaVerne Wilson. She grew up in Van Nuys, California, but spent her summers in Tipton Ford and Webb City with her grandmother Edythe Richards.

She graduated with honors from Stephens College obtaining a BS in chemistry with a minor in nuclear physics and a BE in teaching, she later obtained an additional BS in Medical Technology from Baylor College. Edythe served as a medic in the United States Army. 

She married the love of her life, Michael “Mick” Kirby, on May 20, 1972. They made a home in Laveen Arizona. She was a teacher for a short time then found her calling as a Microbiologist for the Phoenix, VA Hospital.

She loved to spend her free time with friends and family. She loved animals; raising horses, ponies and German Shepherds, she also provided shelter to any animal in need of a home. She was a founding member of the Short Timers Motorcycle Club and delighted in the freedom of riding with her husband and friends. She was a classically trained pianist and enjoyed sharing her great love of music with those around her. She spent many hours building her own Celtic harp and teaching herself to play. She loved to jam with her husband and friends and played her harp in the group, Prism.

Edythe and her family joined Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Webb City in 2011. She loved her Church and her Parish family. She helped to run the Parish Food Pantry and was a member of both the Liturgy Committee and the PCCW.








Edythe is survived by her brother Rob Wilson, her husband Mick Kirby, her daughters Melissa De La Rosa (Derek King), Heather Rocha (David Rocha), & Shauna Chew (Andrew Elliott), her grandchildren Angel (Bailey), Alyssa, David Jr., Mia, Robin, Jack, Katie, Odhran, & SaritHoney, her great grandchildren Adalynn, Penelope, Jaxon and Wesley. Along with her many extended family members.

Her Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday December 19, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Webb City, Missouri, Reverend Francisco “Paco” Gordillo officiating. Internment of her Ashes at Mount Hope Cemetery will follow Mass, Reverend Rahab Isidor officiating. A lunch celebrating her life will be held at the Church following the Internment. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Sacred Heart Parish Food Pantry, the DAV, or the American Cancer Society.
