Mr. Alford Ray Lewis, 92, of Pineville, Missouri, departed this life on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Missouri, after a recent decline in health.
Ray entered this life on March 26, 1927, in Pineville, Missouri, son of the late Orval and Blanche (Akehurst) Lewis. He was raised an attended school in Pineville.
On May 21, 1947, in Pineville, he was united in marriage to Neirene Harriet Ash and to this union two daughters and four sons were born. They resided in Idaho and Kansas before returning home to Pineville in 1958. He worked for Eagle Picher in Joplin, Missouri for several years. He retired as Greens Keeper at the Bella Vista Golf Course. He enjoyed farming, gardening, woodworking, tending to his flowerbeds and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Valley View Church in Pineville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of sixty-four years, Neirene Harriet Lewis; two great grandchildren, Kody Long and Graydon Lammers; and four brothers, John Henry, Carl, Lonnie and Teddy Lewis; and a son in-law, Mike Kelly.
Ray is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Cooper and husband, Jack, of Neosho, Missouri and Della Kelly of Pineville, Missouri; four sons, Donald Lewis and wife, Dianna, of Springfield, Missouri, Gerald Lewis and wife, Elethy, also of Springfield, Wayne Lewis and wife, Teresa, of Avilla, Missouri and Carl Lewis and wife, Deborah, of Goodman, Missouri; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a brother, Frankie Lewis and wife, DeeDee, of Pineville; four sisters, Ruth Drake of Twin Falls, Idaho, Irene Coddington and husband, Bill, of Ft. Sumner, New Mexico, Carla Drew and husband, Bob, of Hiwassee, Arkansas and Anna McCool of Pineville; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Lewis are 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 20, 2019 in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Pastor Scott Leonard officiating. Burial will follow in the Jane Cemetery.
Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Tim Lewis, Bryan Lewis, Jeff Lewis, Devin Moore, Shawn Addington and Andrew Addington with Michael Williams, James Lewis, Curtis Lewis and McKenna Burris serving as honorary pallbearers.
