(From Parker Mortuary)Vernon Laud Vest, age 79, of Joplin, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at home in Joplin.
Vernon, son of the late Clifford and Ethel (Carr) Vest, was born on June 24, 1942 in Long Lane, MO. He was united in marriage to Lucille Cain on June 27, 1964 in New Point, MO. He worked as a gas station manager for many years. He later retired from Tamko.
For several years, Vernon and Lucille were hosts for many international exchange students that attended Ozark Christian College in Joplin. His goal was for each student to be able to return to their home country with the ability to show the love of Jesus through their education and service work to help others.
He enjoyed hunting, was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, and loved to sing at Central City Christian Church where he was an active member. Vernon never met a stranger. His greatest pride and joy in life was his family. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Vest, of Joplin; three daughters, Verna Ruth Middleton, and her husband, Dennis, of Charlotte, NC, Rebecca Lynn Helms, and Rosetta Marie Vest, both of Webb City; grandchildren, Eric Taylor Middleton, Lauren Elizabeth Middleton, Jacob Ewan Foster, Joshua Owen Foster, Mason Skie Messer and Jenni, Sasha Renee and Matt, and Chase Wesley Messer and Jessica; great grandchildren, Ewan Samwise Foster, Iris Ada Foster, Elijah Cole Messer, and Fayth Elise Westberry; his brother, Gleamon Vest, and wife, Betty, of Long Lane, MO; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Central City Christian Church in Joplin with burial to be held at a later date. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Friday, January 7th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Central City Christian Church in Joplin. Memorial contributions may be made to Stanley Ndichu Wainaina, a former exchange student, and may be entrusted to the mortuary.
Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
