(From Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home)Mrs. Eunice Irene Sommer, 74, of Sarcoxie, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at St. Luke’s Nursing Center in Carthage, Missouri.
Irene entered this life on Tuesday, September 30, 1947 in Carthage, Missouri, to the union of the late Glen and Florence (O’Banion) Davis. She was a graduate of Carthage High School.
On September 7, 1968, she was united in marriage to Edward Sommer. Together they shared fifty-three years.
For several years she was employed with Juvenile Shoe, Justin Boot, Gilbert H. Wild & Son nursery and Ozarkland Village. She was a very dedicated and loyal employee. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Carthage, Missouri. She was past president of Sarcoxie PTA as well as a booster member. She enjoyed attending many activities that were related to her grandchildren. She also enjoyed bowling and traveled to many tournaments. Irene was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and took extraordinary care of her family. She will truly be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law, Gloria Davis; and brothers-in-law, Vic Aubey and Jimmie Huff.
Irene is survived by her husband Edward, of the home; son, Dustin Sommer and wife Michelle, of Sarcoxie; grandchildren; Matt Sommer, Ashleigh Sommer, Brooke Sommer and Grayson Sommer; siblings, Bill Davis, of Webb City, Missouri and Jack Davis and wife, Ronda, of Carthage; brother-in-law, Gregory Sommer and wife, Janice, of Sarcoxie, Missouri, Charles Sommer and wife, Marcia, of South Carolina, Shirley Aubey, Hamshire, Texas and Linda Huff, of Stotts City, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends. In-lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Bill and Virginia Leffen Center for Autism in care of the funeral home.
